Buying power helps on carpet

They answer the telephone, "Stove, Spa, Pool and Water Works," and that still doesn't include everything they do.
For instance, anyone may take advantage of the free computerized water testing for pools, spas and well water.
The three businesses the Troxells own are Spa and Pool Works, Stove Works and Water Works.

HAVING WHAT YOU NEED in stock is one thing Don Anderson credits for the success of this business.

Nine years ago, Don Anderson opened Sonora Carpet Mart with one employee.

Today, the organization has 20 employees plus 12 licensed installers.

"We have grown tremendously," said Anderson, "and the reason is that we buy in huge quantities so we can offer in-stock carpet and vinyl at lower prices than anyone else, and we offer exceptional service.

Over the years, the business has expanded to include furniture upstairs in the Sonora store, a floor covering store in Merced and the Angel's Carpet Mart in Angels Camp.

Anderson's son Greg is manager of the Sonora Carpet Mart, Rick Lunsford is manager of the Merced store, Mike Hajduk is manager of the furniture store in Sonora and Ralph Dietz manages the Angels Camp store.

In addition to carpet, the Sonora store carries more than 60 rolls of vinyl at all times as well as a large inventory of hardwood flooring.

The furniture department upstairs includes the largest selection of mattress sets in the county, recliners and sleeper sofas.

Again, the emphasis is on having huge quantities at good prices.

"We don't carry everything," said Anderson, "but we have a lot of what we do carry."

At the Home and Garden Show, Anderson and his staff will introduce new wood products that have become strong sellers.

"Today's wood flooring comes in solid three-fourths-inch stock and in laminates that are very stable like plywood but are all oak," he said. "The laminates are glued down, and the three-quarter-inch wood is nailed down."

Anderson said wood products have taken over areas where vinyl flooring has been used in the past, such as family rooms and kitchens.

"It's almost like furniture when you buy gorgeous oak flooring," he said. "It's there forever, its easy maintenance and it has a warm effect in the home."
