Screen doors roll out of the way when not needed
Mother Lode Internet, the first Internet provider in Tuolumne County, is still a family-owned-and-operated business that plans to keep its focus on the Mother Lode.
Although Dennis and Brenda Dahlin have incorporated the business, they remain the only stockholders.
AT HIS OWN HOME, Ed Brown demonstrates the Phantom screen door that graces his entrance.
Ed Brown of Sonora is the dealer for Phantom Screen Doors and Windows, which disappear from view when not needed.
Along with brochures and videos about the unique system, he will have a door at the Home and Garden Show to demonstrate how it works.
Brown and his wife Bobbie moved to Sonora in 1990 after Ed retired from a 32-year career as a manager for Nabisco. They last lived in Fresno for 22 years.
The Phantom originated in Canada, and has been available in the United States for about five years.
Called "the disappearing screen for doors and windows," it is used for in-swing or out-swing doors, double French doors, sliding patio doors and windows.
Customers may choose insect mesh or sun screen, which protects from the sunlight.
The Phantom is designed to take the place of conventional screening systems. Its major advantage is its ability to be out of sight and protected when not in use. When in use, it gives the benefit of full ventilation while keeping insects out.
The screens are made to fit specific applications. A variety of standard sizes is available, and custom orders are welcome. There are several color options available to match window or door frames.
