Outdoor living is a breeze

Mother Lode Internet, the first Internet provider in Tuolumne County, is still a family-owned-and-operated business that plans to keep its focus on the Mother Lode.
Although Dennis and Brenda Dahlin have incorporated the business, they remain the only stockholders.

Outdoor living will be highlighted at the Orchard Supply Hardware booth at this year's Home and Garden Show.

Everything needed for outdoor entertaining and relaxation will be displayed, including patio furniture, barbecues, statuary, fountains and garden items.

On Saturday, the Orchard Supply booth will host a water garden expert from Aquatic Resources in Sebastopol, who will speak about water and bog gardening. The talk will begin at 11 a.m.

Orchard was purchased by Sears early last year, said store manager Allan Bennett, and now offers some Sears brand items such as Kenmore barbecues, Craftsman tools and Weather Beater paints.

Also, he said, "There will be other Craftsman and Kenmore products snaking through (the store) as the year goes on."

Sonora's Orchard Supply Hardware store was opened in the Sonora Plaza in 1994 and is one of more than 60 stores in California.

It offers a wide variety of items for the home and garden, from cabinet handles to large garden fountains.

It also runs a top notch nursery, which is staffed by a California Certified Nursery Person (CCNP), Nancy Carr, as well as two UC Cooperative Extension Master Gardeners. Bennett said they hope to have two more CCNP's on staff by the end of the year.

Bennett, who has managed the store for nearly a year and has been with the company for more than 25, credits his staff with the store's success.

"We have a great team in the store," he said. "Some of the best people."
