Contractor puts his focus on stairways and millwork
Steve Souders of Sonora will demonstrate the Host Dry Chemical Carpet Cleaning Process at the Home and Garden Show.
He will also have a display of 1998 Patriot High Performance Cleaning Machines and lots of information.
He said the Patriot cleaning machines are a high technology replacement for modern day vacuum cleaners.
WORKING ON A SPIRAL STAIRCASE is James Hunt (top) and a crew.
James Hunt Stairs and Millwork specializes in the types of custom work that make a home one of a kind.
Owner James Hunt works as a subcontractor for new home builders and as a contractor for owner-builders and people who want to remodel their homes.
"My whole premise is to make things you can't go to a store and buy," he said. "All of my work is custom stuff, such as circular and spiral staircases, Victorian, colonial or whatever the owners have in mind.
He also does custom interior trim, crown molding and wainscotting, hangs doors and windows and builds custom closetry.
He will have a free drawing at the Home and Garden Show for six feet of closet organization valued at $200. Also on display will be samples of his work, including a fireplace mantle.
He has been in the construction business for 23 years, and has lived in Tuolumne County since 1980.
"This is a phase of construction I have always wanted to do," he said. He got the opportunity when he had to recuperate from a knee injury, "and I was hooked," he said. "I loved it, and I couldn't quit."
He started his business in 1989 and said word of mouth has kept him busy. This is the first time he has taken part in the Home and Garden Show.
