Columbia Nursery blossoms at show

Pat Toepel treats residential and commercial water, and that's all he does.
"I don't sell stoves or spas or awnings," he said. "This is all I do, and I do it well."

Terry and Janet Ofstad's commitment to make Columbia Nursery a successful business that is visually appealing to the customer has paid off.

They bought the nursery in August 1995 and have strived since then to offer the most complete service possible.

"We have done a lot of upgrading and rearranging of the floral shop and nursery," said Janet. "We want it to be a really pleasant experience to walk through our business, and we are always available to offer advice or walk someone through the nursery."

She and Terry both work in the nursery, and they have experienced floral designers in the floral shop.

"We are always striving for excellent quality and service," she said, "and keeping up with what's new and different in the industry as well as what people here want. If we don't have something here, we will try our best to find it."

Another company policy is not to let people walk out of the nursery with a plant until they know how to plant it and make it thrive.

The florist shop is full service, with traditional floral shop wares such as plants and gifts as well as custom fresh, dried and silk arrangements and balloon bouquets. They offer delivery world wide or locally.

The Ofstads moved to Tuolumne County from San Jose, where Janet's background was in finance and business management and Terry's was in construction. Gardening was one of Janet's hobbies.

This year's booth at the Home and Garden Show will display a variety of nursery stock, garden accessories, floral arrangements and gift items.

A free drawing will be held for a $50 gift certificate.
