Firm offers heating, cooling and a lot more
With roots going back to 1928, Central Heat, Air, Sheetmetal and Refrigeration is steeped in experience.
Owner Jeff Sargo began working in the business in 1976 and has owned it since 1983.
The business has changed and adapted to the times. It was primarily a new construction subcontractor when Sargo bought it. He continued that aspect of the business and expanded the scope by focusing on the retail or remodel segment of the trade.
"Contracting directly with homeowners and interacting with them to meet their specific needs has been quite satisfying," said Sargo. "People really are interested in learning what options they have and how what they choose will affect their lives.
"We are continually working to expand our services and keep our crews trained on state-of-the-art equipment, so our customers have more options."
As examples, he cited "super-high efficiency furnaces and air conditioners, air cleaning equipment that can remove dust, pollen, smoke, odors and other allergens, and extended warranties that guarantee no repair bills for 10 years."
"We have people staffing our office during business hours," he said, "and an answering service so our customers can talk to a real person rather than a machine when they have needs."
Some of the services the business provides are regular maintenance, repair and replacement of central furnaces, central air conditioners, evaporative coolers, wall furnaces, floor furnaces, window and room air conditioners, unit heaters, solar systems, water heaters, air cleaners and inspections for home sales or other purposes.
"Central heating and air conditioning is the second or third largest purchase most people ever make," said Sargo. "It's important to protect that investment with regular maintenance, which is surprisingly inexpensive."
Kits for do-it-yourselfers are available along with the "trade specific" help most people need to install a trouble free system.
Central maintains its own fully staffed metal fabrication shop with sheetmetal, stainless steel, copper and brass, as well as welding project capabilities.
Along with a multitude of residential work, some local projects Central has completed heating, air conditioning and sheet metal work on include The Fallon Hotel, Tuolumne County Jail, shops in the Crossroads shopping center and the remodel of the Forest Service supervisor's office in Sonora.
The business is willing to travel and work outside the county. Sargo said this willingness provides jobs for Tuolumne County residents and brings "outside" money in to feed the local economy.
Central has completed jobs recently in Auburn, Los Banos, Visalia, Fallon and Winnemucca, Nev., San Rafael and San Pablo.
Out-of-the-area jobs planned in coming months include work in Sacramento, Paso Robles and others.
Central is a member of Sierra Professional Association and participates in Barter Exchange International (BXI).
