Framer shows art in best light

SHOWING ART at its best advantage is Brad Brooks' specialty.

Brad Brooks of Brooks Framing & Art will give away a $100 picture framing job in a drawing held at the Home and Garden Show.

His work, that of other area artists and the work of well-known recorders of history such as photographer Ansel Adams can be seen at Brooks' gallery inside Sierra Lighting on Sonora's Stockton Road. He will also have a display of custom-framed mirrors, which he said have been in big demand lately.

Brooks is a certified picture framer and a professional artist. He has been in the picture framing industry for 16 years and has owned his business for four years. He will celebrate his Sonora gallery's second anniversary on April 9.

He has a degree in fine arts and specializes in affordable custom framing and creative matting of original and reproduction artwork.

Besides framing, the shop includes a gallery with original artwork and limited edition prints and quality posters.

"I'm always looking for new artists," he said.

He does all kinds of custom framing, from plain frames to matted pictures or such things as shadow boxes.

"Needle art has been very popular in this area," he said, "and I have become very adept at showing it to its best advantage."

Some of the more unusual requests he has filled have been framing for antique silver spoons, a silk Christening gown, arrow heads and other memorabilia.
