Construction firm builds on quality, personal service
Kevin and Marie Jo Barr believe in being innovative.
They frequently attend trade shows, conventions and seminars to stay abreast of the latest innovations in the building industry.
Barr Construction & Restoration will build a new custom home or completely remodel an existing one.
"With our fully multimedia computer system, we provide detailed estimates and presentations," said Barr, "and our customers appreciate the accuracy. It enables them to make knowledgeable decisions.
"Recently upgrading to a fully three dimensional computer-aided design program with fly-over and walk-through capabilities enables our clients to better understand the layout, space and efficiency of their projects."
Kevin Barr is an experienced general contractor who was raised in the Bay Area and trained through the Carpenter's Union starting in 1980.
"I worked my way up through the ranks," he said, "becoming lead man in 1984."
In 1988, he started his own company in the Bay Area, specializing in complex remodeling and renovations of Victorian homes.
In 1985, Kevin and Marie Jo met at Chair 5 at Dodge Ridge Ski Area.
They bought a lot in Tuolumne County in 1992 and built their own modern home with a Victorian exterior and many European touches inside. They have an 8-year-old son, Vincent.
Marie Jo was born and raised in the south of France. She has added her European influence to the business, helping add artistic touches to architecture and design.
She is also a real estate agent with Better Homes and Gardens Sugar Pine Realty.
The Barrs give each customer:
-- A detailed print-out of how the project budget is applied to the job, which enables the customer to make knowledgeable decisions about the extent, complexity and quality of the project.
-- A schedule of the job's planned progress, minimizing any possible disruption of the lives of people who may be living in the house.
-- A warranty letter.
They say letters of appreciation from their customers show appreciation for the "great value," "quality of the work" and their "knowledge and honesty," but what their customers seemed to appreciate most was their caring and the minimizing of disruptions of daily routines.
