Family teams up in tasty business
A SELLING DUO -- Nancy Turner (left) of Copperopolis and her niece, Dede Fulkerson of Sonora will sell All Star Dips and Golden Gate Gourmet Soups.
Nancy Turner of Copperopolis and her niece, Dede Fulkerson of Sonora are vendors for All Star brand dips, spreads and dressings.
They will be giving away samples of their dips at the Home and Garden Show and selling the dips and Golden Gate Gourmet Soups.
They said their entire family is craft-oriented, and they have always been avid visitors to craft shows. Their first venture as vendors was in November 1996 when they made some things at home to sell for a little bit of extra Christmas money.
The booth next to theirs was an All Star Dips booth, and they noticed it was extremely busy. They started talking to the vendors, and soon they had decided to become All Star vendors.
They attend events such as craft fairs, home and garden shows, sports shows and county fairs in such places as Modesto, Fresno, Stockton, Monterey and Reno.
Nancy's husband Bill owns Nother Lode Recycling, and they live in Copperopolis. They have a son Jay, 20, who lives in Palo Alto, and a daughter Shea, 15, a student at Bret Harte High School.
Nancy still works part-time as an administrative assistant for Hewlitt Packard in the Bay Area, staying with her son two days a week and working from her Copperopolis home one day a week.
Dede, 26, has lived in Tuolumne County since she was a toddler. She is a 1989 graduate of Sonora High School.
Her husband Brett is co-owner with other family members of Otto Skyline Logging Co. in Tuolumne. They have a 2-1/2-year-old daughter, Brooke.
Dede worked at Pak 'N' Save until Brooke was born.
Besides being a fun way to make money and meet people, Dede and Nancy say this business is one they can work around their families.
Nancy's daughter Shea works with them frequently. Dede's husband can take care of Brooke during winter months when he isn't logging, or the whole family can attend a show together as long as someone watches the baby.
Also, Nancy and Dede may both attend a show or, if one is busy with other things, the other can attend or they can each attend different shows on the same weekend.
